Evolving the system and preparing the next iteration

Today we step into the next phase of our public-sector collaboration in Belgium: Version 2 of a major Microsoft Dynamics setup, running from now through the end of the calendar year. This isn’t about tearing up what exists; it’s about evolving it with clearer intent and kinder edges — for the public servant at the console, the citizen checking a status, and the enterprise navigating obligations without drama. Version 2 is where the system grows up: fewer apologies, fewer workarounds, and far fewer mysteries hidden behind buttons. Think of it as the stretch from “it works” to “it works, holds up under pressure, and doesn’t need a pep talk on Monday morning.”

Our Version 2 Agile approach starts with outcomes, not theatrics: we organise around service journeys, not modules, and measure progress by what gets simpler for real people. Discovery and delivery run together, with small batches that ship on a dependable rhythm, and “show the thing” reviews designed to be interesting enough that people turn up without biscuits. Microsoft sits at the table with us — architecture clinics, performance tuning, shared telemetry — so that decisions are made once, transparently, and with the right trade-offs. The definition of done is deliberately unglamorous and resolute: GDPR-by-design, accessibility that meets European standards, predictable performance under load, clear audit trails, and build less, verify more stitched into every sprint.

On Dynamics, we work with model-driven apps and Dataverse in a way that respects roles and reality: a public servant workspace that makes queues, cases, and timelines obvious; a citizen view that surfaces status and next steps without decoding; and an enterprise view that handles delegation, bulk actions, and clean integrations to existing systems. We prioritise configuration over custom code, managed solutions through automated pipelines, feature toggles for calm releases, and observability that tells us early when the system is sweating. Change lands with people, not just platforms, so we’ll support champions inside departments, keep training light and contextual, and favour micro-briefings over epic manuals. By year-end the goal is simple to say and hard to fake: shorter queues, clearer screens, better data, and a system that lets policy be ambitious without technology getting in the way — the quiet confidence of a Version 2 that has earned its stripes.
